Animal Abusers Are COWARDS! [27 Jan 2009|01:51pm]
[ mood | angry ]

As many of you know, i'm an animal lover. I believe that God meant for humans and animals to coexist and love one another. Unfortunately, animals don't have a voice. There are some evil humans out there who do horrible stuff to animals, and due to the bad economy, animal abuse appears to be on the rise. This deeply saddens me. I have had three cats through the course of my life. To me, those cats were part of my family. They loved me as much as any human ever could. In fact, animals love you totally for who you are. That is a quality most, if not all animals have. It is a quality that is much more rare in humans. What really bothers me about animal abuse, is it seems the punishment is just a slap on the wrist. So i have devised some fitting punishments for animal abusers, AND a very fitting punishment for the asses running the puppy mills. First off, if you beat your animal to death with a stick, your punishment is that you get beaten to death with a stick. If you break their jaw, you get your jaw broken. Last but not least, for the puppy mill people. Since they starved hundreds of puppies, left them in their cages in their own urine and poo......their punishment is the exact same thing. Hey, if they starve to death.....that means less animal abusers in the world, and that would be a good thing. Lastly, i know all of my friends love animals, and would never abuse them. However, if you are just browsing myspace and AREN'T my friend and you DO abuse animals, i want you to know i think you are a fucking coward, a terrible person, you aren't my friend, and as far as i'm concerned you can also burn in Hell.

Stuck in the Cold [31 Jan 2008|07:23pm]
[ mood | cold ]

Washington state, well actually much of the Northwest seems to be stuck in a cold snap. I mean stuck. Below normal temperatures have gone on for what seems to be at least a month now. Prior to this cold snap, we've had at least one other, and I *think* it was in the fall, before winter technically even started. The mountains continue to get buried in feet of snow. Spokane is under a state of emergency because they don't have enough snow plows to keep up with the dumping snow. Pretty insane stuff. Here in the lowlands, we just keep flirting with the chance of snow, snow mixed with rain, and frigid temperatures. I guess we can just be thankful that all most of us have gotten is an inch or two here and there, that melts pretty quickly.

Still, I'm cold everyday. I have socks on my feet, and still they feel like ice cubes. My computer is also in the coldest room in the house. Oh well, a nice warm cup of hot spiced apple cider sounds good right about now. As meteorologist Steve Pool said he doesn't see an end to this abnormally cold pattern. He guesses we'll just have to wait for the calendar to change months. I know. Maybe July 5th! :)

Character Linked with Employment [21 Jan 2008|04:38pm]
Last week on Dr. Phil, he was discussing a very interesting issue. He was discussing people putting their pictures online on sites such as Facebook, and MySpace. It turns out many teens and young people, even older ones, put pictures on Facebook, such as puking in toilets, laying beside toilets asleep, laying almost naked on the floor with explicit words on their chests. These are just some disturbing examples. I didn't quote what was actually written on their chests, because I found it inappropriate.

The issue being discussed was that employers check online profiles. Many people do not believe that what they put online matters. They do it because they assume their friends will think it is funny, and they think it is a joke. Yet what they don't realize or think about is they are putting it onlien for anyone to see. They aren't putting it on so only their friends can see it. Yet they are upset to hear that employers look at that stuff, and depending on what they find on you, you might not be hired because of a picture online. Reason being, it shows your character, and shows your decision making processes.

Many of these people thought it was unfair that employees could look at that stuff. I however, do not think it is unfair. Here is what I think. You control what you put online for the public to see. If there is something you *don't* want all people to say, don't put it online, or limit it so that only your friends can see it.

I want to know what other people think though. Have any of you ever put anything online that you wouldn't want employers to see? Do you think it is fair that employers look at online profiles on Facebook, Myspace, probably other websites such as this one as well.

Restaurant Atmosphere [03 Jan 2008|07:11pm]
I frequent restaurants quite often. Typically every weekend, I go out at least once. There is one thing I'm noticing from 9 out of 10 restaurants I frequent that I don't like. My Mom and I were discussing this the other day at Claimjumper. Most restaurants atmosphere is very loud. It is very difficult to carry on a conversation with the person right next to or across from you. You've typically got music blaring, plates clanking, TV's blaring, and in some cases, babies screaming. Although right now I'm not counting the babies screaming, because that can happen anywhere. Most restaurants have their employees loudly sing Happy Birthday, and pretty much force all the patrons in the restaurant to stop what they are doing, and pay attention to the lucky birthday person. It doesn't even matter if the restaurants are busy or not, many of them are still loud, even during non-peak times.

For example, tuesday Mom, and I, and grandma had an early dinner at Claimjumper. The food and the service was excellent, which is usually the case at Claimjumper. Problem was, it was still unbelievably loud at four when hardly anybody was there. So that is when Mom and I began to discuss that it's also loud at Red Robin as well. Then I thought about it, and most restaurants are loud. Here is the list of loud restaurants. Red Robin, Rain Forest Cafe, Red Lobster, Claimjumper, Olive Garden (although the one near Everett and in Federal Way not so much so), Bahama Breeze, Torreros, Las Margaritas, The Keg, Ram, and Panera.

Places that aren't loud, or not always are Shari's, Mitzel's, Duke's and Ihop. However, those aren't my favorite places to dine anyway. So I'm posting this online for all the public to see. I'm doing this in the hopes that someone out there who works in the restaurant industry will see this and communicate it to others.

Most people don't want to go out to eat to end their meal with a headache. Some restaurants do have surveys though. Maybe I should fill out some surveys to let them know I would like more peace and quiet when I go out to eat. I go out to relax and talk with friends or family, and it's not very relaxing when I have to shout.

Gnomes Without Homes [05 Nov 2007|04:22pm]
[ mood | amused ]

I love stupid criminal stories, probably because I like comedy in general. I think the following prank is pretty funny. Sometime earlier in October, a person, or a group of people, in Springfield Oregon, stole a bunch of garden gnomes, deer, frogs, and other lawn ornaments and then put them on and around the lawn of one house. There were 75 gnomes, plus some frogs, deer, etc. Seeing the picture of it was hilarious, but also kind of frightening. Sure, they all have smiling faces, but with that many friendly elves and animals, it could be kind of freaky having all those faces staring at you.

The gnomes are now residing at the police station, waiting for their rightful owners to come and identify them. Apparently the police captain is looking forward to getting rid of them, because they are taking up a lot of room. Those that are not identified by tomorrow will be auctioned off.

I saw this story on the news and I started cracking up. It reminded me of a similar story a year ago. Somebody was stealing garden gnomes then as well, but it wasn't as amusing because they didn't leave the gnomes in one yard. Still was a strange story though.

Although if I was a victim, I probably wouldn't think it was as funny. I have a big collection of frogs, for example. If those were stolen, I would not be happy. Of course if I saw them on someones lawn on the news, I *still* might be a bit amused. :)

First storm of the season down.....lots more to go [19 Oct 2007|04:13pm]
Well, I survived the first storm of the season yesterday. I did not lose electricity, and it appeared to me that most of the people in Covington and Kent area didn't lose it either. However, there were other areas that were hard hit. My grandma that lives in Burien lost her power yesterday at three, and didn't have it back on as of seven last night. Apparently all of Burien was out. My other grandma that lives with my aunt in Maple Valley lost hers as well around seven last night. I was listening to the radio and the DJ stated there were many people without power.

I heard about down power lines near Kent Station, a woman in that area almost got hit by a tree. I was wondering how that could happen. There *aren't* hardly any trees down there. That's probably the problem though. If you only have a few trees here and there, and take out a bunch for development, the ones that are still remaining are likely to fall.

I think the reason are winds get stronger every year, and that we have more wind storms is because of that actually. I don't blame global warming, I blame massive construction and in doing massive construction, having to cut down tons of trees. The more trees you cut down, the windier it gets.

I was hoping we would get less wind storms this year. Last year was terrible with that and the snow. But considering that fall started earlier this year, has been colder than normal, and our first wind storm came earlier than normal, we're probably in for another rough fall and winter.

This is kind of off the topic, but Mom and I met a lot of nice australian people at Disneyland. I'm beginning to think if this is the weather I have to look forward to every fall and winter, I'm going to move to australia, and come back here for the spring and summer. :)

Trip to the Magical Kingdom [14 Oct 2007|07:07pm]
I am back from Disneyland! It was fun. Got to go on all the rides I wanted, except Indian Jones because it was closed. However, I've been on that before, so it's no big deal. Got to go on the Finding Nemo ride in the sub. Luckily I went on it Wednesday, because all the other days, it was a two hour wait, and I wasn't willing to wait over an hour. We went to Universal Studios on Friday, and it wasn't crowded at all. It was how we expected Disneyland to be. However, we heard from a season pass holder in line for Nemo, that schools in Utah had a break, and they were coming to Disneyland.

Even though Mom and I had fun, and I got lots of souvenirs, neither of us think Disneyland is the "magical kingdom" it used to be. First of all, during one day that we was there, three rides broke down for a period of time, and then on Saturday, the train broke down for half the day. Plus, people bring their babies and toddlers, so there are strollers *everywhere*. Yeah, Disneyland is for kids.....who appreciate it. I mean, the babies and toddlers I saw were all fussing and upset. They don't care about being there. I can kind of see if a couple has a kindergarten aged kid, who appreciates Disneyland, and then their other kid is younger. Still though. I saw lots of couples there with just a baby or a toddler. I guess the couple just wants to go to Disneyland, and they can't find a sitter for the tiny one, so they bring it along. I was in first grade the first time I went to Disneyland. I think kids have to be able to walk and talk at least before they can appreciate it.

If Disneyland is as busy as it was during last week in "off season," this month, there is no *way* I would even think of going in the summmer. I've been to Disneyland about seven times now, I think that is enough, at least for awhile. By yesterday, my patience for strollers, screaming babies and asians cutting in front of me in line with their whole huge groups was gone.
Was there just the right amount of time.

Oh, and I got a present in California that I wish I could have left there, a cold.

We did meet some nice people though. We met several australian people who were very friendly and had very friendly and cute kids. You know, I think us Americans could learn something from them. :)

So Long, Farewell! [07 Oct 2007|02:00pm]
[ mood | happy ]

Finally, the moment has almost arrived. Tuesday morning, Mom and I will be leaving for Disneyland! We have been awaiting this trip for months now, and the time is finally here. Thank God the weather looks sunny and in the 80's in LA. It is only October 7th, and already I'm tired of the torrential rain and wind. So this will be a nice welcome break. I'm leaving Tuesday the 9th, and will be back Sunday the 14th. When I get back, I'll post and let y'all know that I'm back, but I probably won't be posting about the trip for awhile afterwords. The week I get back I have various appointments, will be job hunting, *and* will be starting volunteer work at my church every other Thursday. I will be doing receptionist type of work, and the good thing is, I'll get experience answering phones.

Anyway, talk to everyone when I get back! :)

Ready or not, Winter is coming early [25 Sep 2007|06:45pm]
A few months ago I read that weather experts believed this fall and winter was going to be cooler than normal. After last fall and winter, with the torrential rain, wind, and lots of snow, I was hoping they were wrong.

Unfortunately, it looks like they are right. So far, the fall has been cooler than normal, and is looking to get even cooler tomorrow. Right now the snow level is at 11,000 ft. It's expected to go down to 4,000 ft tomorrow, leaving a good possibility of the first snow of the season in the mountains.

Some of you might ask me why that's a big deal. it's in the mountains, not here. It's a big deal because fall has *barely* gotten under way. It isn't even October yet, and if the mountains are already getting snow, won't be long before we get it.

I'm afraid it's going to be another long, cold, ugly fall and winter again. I guess all we can hope for now is that we won't get as much torrential rain and wind this year.

Oh, and for those of you who like the snow, don't bother to comment and tell me how excited you are that it's coming early, because no offense, but I'll smack you. ;)

Traveling Salesman [14 Sep 2007|04:42pm]
[ mood | annoyed ]

As a rule, I generally do not open the door at my house unless I am 1) expecting company, or 2) I am expecting a package and there is a truck in my driveway. There are a couple of reasons for this. I've heard that many criminals actually rob houses during the day. Also, if it isn't someone I know, it's either a criminal, salesperson, or kid selling something. All of those things I am not interested in.

Anyway, last weekend Mom and I were expecting that our neighbors might come over. So the doorbell rings, Mom answers the door, it's a windows salesman. She tells him she isn't interested because firstly, she doesn't buy things door to door, and secondly she knows someone that does windows. Well, the salesman continues to be pushy instead of politely leaving. He also asks her if the reason she won't buy from him is because he is black. Then she proceeds to tell him it doesn't matter if he was black, green, blue, white, or purple, she does *not* buy stuff door to door from someone she doesn't even know, then slams the door in his face.

She and I were talking about how we are so sick of black people especially, because they are so damn sensitive to stuff like that. Supposedly it's because their ancestors were slaves of the white people. That kills me because most of them that are here now haven't even been affected by slavery. I mean, it was eons ago for crying out loud. Plus, now due to their sensitivity, they actually have more rights now than ever before. Why if they don't get hired by an employer, than can file discrimination, because after all, it must be because of their race.

I'm just tired of all that stuff. I know other ethnicities are overly sensitive about that too. Here is what I have to say about slavery and people constanly pulling out their race card. It's actually something I heard Bill Cosby say. "Get over yourselves."

Now before anybody gets angry with me over this, I'm *not* saying that racial discrimination doesn't exist anymore. I know it does. I know a few people who are actually kind of racist. I'm just saying that people need to be less sensitive to stuff like that.

I mean, people could just as easily not get work because they are short like me. Sometimes I even think I've been discriminated against because I can't smile. I can't prove that, but it's a good bet that in some cases, that is what has happened. Yet I'm not constantly accusing people of discrimination just because they reject me.

Happy is Good [13 Sep 2007|10:38am]
[ mood | happy ]

Yesterday Ryan, Travis and I went to the Puyallup Fair. The main reason we went was to see Weird Al. We did see him, and he was awesome, but I'll talk more about that in a few. First I want to tell about the events leading up to that.

So we get there about 1:30, and to our surprise, we're parking way in the back of the parking lot. Whenever Ryan and I have come before on a weekday, it isn't very busy, but yesterday it was. Still, it wasn't as bad as on a weekend. The only time I got kind of annoyed was near the end of the night when I was trying to buy pizza and this girl with completely pierced lips, (looking like a freak), through something at me. One of the women selling pizza got after her and the girl played all innocent. So I bought my pizza somewhere else, simply because the girl was quite scary looking.

We watched two concerts before Al. The gentleman juggler, and Travis Fox the hypnotist. We also enjoyed some food, although at a price. The fair is fun though, and since it's only once a year, I don't mind spending a little extra money. We looked at hobby hall, some of the commercial stuff, although that was because we were looking for italian charms. My Mom's boss was at the fair a few days ago, and told me about those. I have an italian charm bracelet, and it's near *impossible* to find the bracelets or the charms anymore. Besides, each charm was only $4.00 which is a bargain.

I paid for Travis to play Frogger, trying to get the frog in the basket, just for fun. He got three frogs to try to get in the basket, he didn't win me a stuffed frog, but was *close* to getting the frog in the basket on his third turn.

Last, but certainly not least, Weird Al. He was better than the last time Ryan and I saw him a couple years ago. It seemed like he did more songs, more gags and Al TV, and was more interactive with the audience. He also did an encore song, which was rumored he wouldn't do. He did Albuquerque, which is one of his best songs, and is a long one too. There was no opening act, so we got to see even more Weird Al.

So the fairs new motto "Happy is Good" was how I felt last night. Still feel that way today, although a bit tired.

Healed at Last [28 Aug 2007|07:37pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

Last Saturday Mom held a party for me here at the house. It was a celebration of me being 95% healed from the carbon monoxide poisoning. I say 95% because I still occasionally have headaches, back pain, and neck pain. However, nothing like before, and not migraine type headaches either. Nothing that Aspirin can't help or cure. :) The party went well though. We invited about 20 people, and 18 came. That is a *really* good turnout, especially for my parties. It seems that I hardly ever have them because I get all this food, cake, and supplies, and less than half the people show up. Of course the other reason is I rarely have more than ten people over at a time. In fact, over five is a big group to me, and I'm only in the mood for big groups once in awhile. :) This was definitely one of those times.

Mom decorated with my favorite colors. Pink and lavender streamers, pink tablecloth, pink and lavender plates, as well as a frog and Tinkerbell balloon :)

Everyone ate together in the living room and chatted. Then me, Travis, and Jennifer went in the family room and played a couple games. I actually enjoyed them both. Although for the first one, I don't really think I was trying to *win* I think I was just being totally goofy. It was a fun game, but the thing was it involved coming up with words that you think of under certain categories. Let's just say, with some of the categories......you can come up with interesting things. :) So I don't even know who *won* the first game, I just know I lost. The second game Travis won, but that's just because he got lucky. :)

Still have leftovers from the party. Potato salad, pepperoni pizza, punch, olives, Thomas Kemper root beer, snow peas, carrots, and some dips for chips and the veggies. Not a problem though. I'll get through the leftovers, eventually. :)

Queen of Crab [19 Aug 2007|01:45pm]
[ mood | content ]

I love seafood. Clam chowder, crab, halibut, scallops, shrimp, I like most of it.

Yesterday Mom and I went to an office party for her workplace. I was invited because she doesn't have a spouse, and her coworkers love me. The party took place in Marysville at Dr. Cooper's parents beachouse. Mom works as a receptionist for him, he is a urologist. Anyway, the weather was absolutely perfect. Probably in the 70's some sun and some clouds, and a lovely breeze.

First we had some snacks. His girlfriend planned this huge dinner. It was flank steak, pasta salad, corn on the cob, fruit salad, and crab. I didn't realize, but Dr Cooper has a boat and goes crabbing. So the crab *was* actually as fresh as you can get. I was out on the boat with him when he got it. So he gets us on the boat, and *then* tells us he's only been driving it for about a year. He promises his girlfriend he'll drive slow. So to begin with, he does. *Then* his friend on a jetski catches up to us and Dr Cooper asks him if he wants some waves. All of a sudden without warning he guns it, and I thought I was going to fly out of the back of the boat. It was fun though. Although at one point, he had to slow down, because his girlfriend Sarah is a lightweight like me, and *she* was about to fly out of the boat too. At least now I know if I can handle that wild boat ride, I can handle the rides at Disneyland. (Mom and I are going there in October). :)

I think I got sidetracked. Oh yes, I was talking about the snacks. So before dinner we had two types of fancy cheeses on bread, as well as a huge veggie tray and crab dip from Costco. For beverages there was bottled water, Thomas Kemper Root beer, and beer.

Prior to the boat ride, Mom and I walked with Mom's boss and her dog around the beach. Now I'm not a dog person, buy Lyn makes her dog behave. Her dog is just really sweet, so it was fun, and she didn't jump on me once.

Anyway, at dinner, I ate a *whole* crab myself. I kid you not. That's not counting the pasta salad, fruit salad, veggies, cheese, steak, beverages *and* desert that I ate.

So next came desert. Sarah had made a desert, as well as her office assistant. We weren't told who made what deserts, and we had to judge them. They were judged equally, because they were both chocolate. Chocolate marble cheesecake, and some sort of cupcake with chocolate frosting. Sarah thought we were all being diplomatic when we said we liked them the same, but I think most of us were being truthful. It turns out Sarah is just learning how to bake, recently Dr Cooper bought her a kitchen aid. Lyn's husband said that Dr Cooper was giving Sarah a hint.

Anyway, the party was lots of fun. I haven't had that much fun in awhile. Oh, and we watched their safari video. Sarah and Dr Cooper got in a cage while white sharks were swimming around them. They are perfect for each other because they are both daredevils. You would *never* see me doing something like that. Nooooo thank you.

Moron of the Week [13 Aug 2007|04:38pm]
[ mood | annoyed ]

I know some of you write columns similar to this, but the person I'm thinking of probably won't write about this, so I will because I just can't let it go.

Why is it that everyone likes to target McDonald's and Starbucks with frivolous lawsuits? Probably just because they can, and because both companies have lots and lots of money.

Recently there was a lawsuit against Starbucks because a man got third degree burns on his hands because his tea spilled out of his cup. McDonald's has dealt with similar lawsuits because of their hot coffee. I have one thing to say. At McDonald's and Starbucks, there are warnings on the cup that say the beverage is very hot. If people are not responsible enough to handle a hot beverage, they shouldn't buy one.

Actually though, the most recent lawsuit at McDonald's is what I want to mention. A man that was allergic to cheese ordered two quarter pounders with no cheese. Guess what? They messed up and put cheese on his burgers. He ate them, and got an allergic reaction so there is the grounds of the lawsuit. Didn't he notice that there was cheese on the burger when he took it out of the box? What happened to people being responsible for their own actions? Oh I forgot. We live in a world where people don't have to be responsible, and because these corporations have tons of money, most of the time they just settle with the morons and give them exactly what they want.

One time at McDonald's I got a cheeseburger with no meat on it. Guess I should have sued them. Maybe when I was going to UW, I should have sued the coffee shop in the cafeteria too. After all, we had to put our own lids on our coffee. The counter was high up, and one time I accidently spilled all over myself. My jacket had to be dry cleaned, and the coffee *was* very hot. After all, the counter shouldn't be so high, and the lid should be put on for me. (Of course after that I *asked* them to put for me, simply so I could avoid another mess and humiliations, since I know how clumsy I am).

I guess my point is, I take responsibility for my own actions, and companies should function in a way where their customers *also* must be responsible for their own actions. People will just keeping sueing over stupid things because they can, until frivolous lawsuits are thrown out of court completely.

Freedom to Choose [26 Jul 2007|12:03pm]
I am very disturbed in the recent government trend to control what we eat. It started out with putting nutritional information on foodstuffs at grocery stores. Then, some places like Starbucks started putting nutritional information about their drinks and food on their website. More recently Starbucsk stopped using whole milk because their customers supposedly wanted healthier choices. Most recently is the ban of trans fats. I'm okay with that, as long as everything still tastes the same. Oh, and restaurants also have put healthier choices on their menus. Again, fine by me.

The most recent thing of having calories put on menus at most restaurants for each entree is just absolutely insane. That goes way to far. I mean, does anyone go to Olive Garden ordering fettucine alfredo thinking that it's healthy and low in calories? Does anybody go to Starbucks ordering a mocha frappucino with whipped cream and think it's low in calories, or that *any* of their drinks are that healthy? No, probably not. Unless of course the people are total morons, and there will always be some morons in the world.

The elimination of trans fat is fine. However, if people *really* are that health conscious that when they go out to eat they have to know the calories they are consuming, restaurants can have a pamphlet to give those people, or they can go online to find out. Most people that I know who are looking for healthy alternatives when they dine out get salads, or something like that. Momst restaurants offer plenty of healthy choices. I know for example that Applebee's actually has a Weight Watcher section on their menu. I never order from it, but I'm sure some people like it.

The bottom line is that people have the right to choose what they want to eat. We don't live in a dictatorship.

Peace and Harmony [17 Jul 2007|04:49pm]
[ mood | annoyed ]

Ah, the goold ol' Port of Seattle. Just gotta love them and the new decorator they hired for the Christmas decorations at Sea-Tac airport this year. Oh yeah, that's right. They *aren't* "Christmas" decorations, because Christmas shows a religious affiliation. Rather, they are "holiday" decorations, the theme being "Peace and Harmony."

Yeah, that's right. No Christmas trees this year. No santa, no bows, and no angels. There can be and will be trees, possibly with lights, but it will be more of a peaceful Northwestern theme. Ken Schram had it right on his commentary. The port is attempting to make everybody happy, because after all, some people are offended by Christmas trees. Of course most of this stems from last year with the Rabbi controversy. I *do* have to say that Christmas trees or *not* a religious symbol. As Ken put it, their political correctness isn't making everybody happy. It's annoying the Hell out of people.

One more thing. Why should Sea-Tac even spend money on decorations? If they offend so many people, just don't have them at all. They would save lots of money that way.

I'm not trying to push my religion on anyone, I am a very tolerant and open minded person. It makes me angry though that more and more of Christmas seems to get lost each year because some people are offended by it.

Back in the Land of the Living [24 Jun 2007|03:40pm]

Hello my online companions! I have missed you all a great deal, and have missed writing. However, the past four months or so I have been recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning. I had these horrible headaches, dizziness and nausea. Nobody could figure out what it was, and to make a long story short, PSE checked our furnace and found it was letting out a ton of carbon monoxide into the house. Not good at all. Anyway, I am on the road to recovery, and will be posting a bit more often. Nice to be online again :)

A Heavenly Dry Streak [23 Jan 2007|06:49pm]
Finally, the type of weather most of Western Washington has been praying for....for three months now. Since November, we have been pelted with storm after storm. One big windstorm, several smaller windstorms with torrential rain, lots of snow, cold temperatures, and flooding. Most of us were surprised by this, since we were told the past couple winters we've had El Nino, and that kept weather milder, and we'd have that again this winter. Well, I'm not sure I believe we've had El Nino this year until now. This is the worst winter I can *ever* remember, and I've lived here almost 28 years. (Oh, and winter isn't over yet). In my opinion, there is only one explanation. Global warming. However, I've heard meteorologists say, "No, it's just a tyical El Nino winter." Hah! This winter has been anything but typical.

Here is my point. I know what global warming is, and how the climate changes as warming progresses. However, I want to know the opinion on the *other* side of the spectrum. If this extreme weather we've had this winter hasn't been caused by global warming, what is causing it? I'm just interested in the other side of the argument, that being pelted with storms is normal.

Here is the good news. Ever since the snow melted, we've had some rain, but not a lot, and not much wind. It gets even better though. Today it was 52 degrees with sun and clouds. The sun and warmer temperatures continue at least through Tuesday. So enjoy it while it lasts. :)

Merry Christmas everyone!! I think everybody I know has electricity, so it should be a good Christmas. I got a lot of good stuff this year. I also broke the Starbucks record. I've gotten about $100 in Starbucks gift cards in the past. This year though, it's about $170. That's nice though. Especially for someone like me, who is still unemployed. Still gotta have my Starbucks :) However, I may have a temporary part-time job lead. At the urology office where Mom works, they have had growth. There used to only be one doctor, and now there are two. They are going to an EMR system. (Electronic Medical Records). However, the current employees have little time to scan charts. So that might be something I could do. Gotta wait to find out later this week, but I'm crossing my fingers.

There are two medical records positions at the Covington Valley clinic as well, so I'm also applying for those. Something has to pan out sooner or later.

Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and that you all have electricity. After our recent windstorm, we all have a lot to be thankful for. Electricity, health, safety, and most of all, our loved ones, friends and family, even coworkers or people that hardly know us that are willing to let us stay with them during the storm.

Also, make sure you check on those you care about during the next storm. Hopefully it will be another 13 years at least before another really bad one hits. However, sometimes we get so flustered, we look after ourselves, and forget about some of our friends. After catching up on blogs, I found out one of my friends was without electricity for six days, and I never called to check on her. I don't plan on making that mistake again.

Scary Storm [18 Dec 2006|08:43pm]
This is my first post since our 100 year storm. That's how often they say we have these storms. Of course, in 1993 we had one that was almost equally bad. I see a pattern. What once used to be freakish storms that hardly ever happen, they are happening more often. Severe weather is a way of life now. I'm not just talking about here, but everywhere.

While we have been dodging high wind, down-pouring rain, snow and ice, other places like the Northeast have temperatures in the 70's. They typically have lots of snow, but it is like spring there instead of winter. Meanwhile, Seattle gets hit with one storm after another. The worst storm hit last Thursday, as everybody knows. I consider myself lucky. I was only without power for a day and a half. I know several people who still do not have power, and are told they may not even have it by Christmas.

The main thing is, nobody I know or love was hurt, and the house had minimal damage. A couple small holes in the deck from big branches hitting it, but that can be fixed easily. Of course when the branches hit, they hit with such force Mom and I thought a tree hit the house. We couldn't check to see until the next day though. We didn't *dare* go out in the middle of it.

I keep thinking the weather can't get any worse, and yet it does. I guess we can hope winter will be a little more calm, but even if it *is* the severe weather trend isn't going to go away. The reason I believe this is because I believe in global warming. If you look at the weather, you can see there are dangerous patterns. It's like Al Gore said in his documentary. The severe weather we have seen we will continue to see as long as the earth continues to warm up. So I think the solution to taming down the severe weather is for everyone to be more environmentally friendly.

There was something nice that happened during the storm though. Our neighbors invited us to dinner and to play a game of Mexican Train.
